How to Buy and Store Nuts and Seeds?
Nuts and seeds have high lipid content which makes them get rancid more quickly if they are exposed to light, heat, moisture and metal ions. Therefore, it is best to buy unshelled nuts and store them in a dark, cool, dry area and in air-tight glass containers.
You can store your nuts and seeds:
- At room temperature for 2 – 4 months.
- In a fridge for 6 – 7 months.
- In a freezer for a year or so.
If you only have a small quantity of nuts and seeds and go through them within 2 – 4 months, store them at the room temperature otherwise it is best to refrigerate or freeze them. During the hottest months of summer, store them in the fridge.
